Abstract:

Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) isolated from the Western Corn Rootworm, Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte, are disclosed. The invention encompasses nucleic acid molecules that encode D. v. virgifera protein homologs and fragments thereof. In addition, antibodies capable of binding the proteins are encompassed by the present invention. The disclosed ESTs have particular utility in isolating genes and promoters, identifying and mapping the genes involved in developmental and metabolic pathways, and determining gene function. The ESTs provide a unique molecular tool for the targeting and isolation of novel genes for plant protection and improvement. The invention also relates to methods of using the disclosed nucleic acid molecules, proteins, fragments of proteins, and antibodies, for example, for gene identification and analysis, and preparation of constructs.

Abstract:

A new transcription factor coding gene induced by water deficit or abscisic acid of Helianthus annuus, having a homeodomain associated to a leucine zipper, was characterized. The transcription factor is useful to be cloned in DNA constructions for transforming host cells and plants. The transgenic plants comprising the transcription factor gene are tolerant and resistant to harmful environmental conditions such as water stress and high salinity. Polynucleotides and polypeptides incorporated into expression vectors have been introduced into plants and were ectopically expressed. Methods for conveying soybean rust (SBR) resistance into non-resistant soybean germplasm are provided. A method for immobilizing glycoprotein is disclosed. A surface is provided. Next, a boronic acid is contacted to the surface. The boronic acid is represented as Y—R—B—(OH)₂ and includes a boronic acid group(B—(OH)₂), a linker R, and a functional group Y, in which the boronic acid is bonded to the surface via the functional group Y. A glycoprotein is contacted to the boronic acid, wherein two spatially adjacent hydroxyl groups of a carbohydrate chain form a boronate ester with the boronic acid group of the boronic acid to immobilize the glycoprotein. The goal of site-specific and covalent protein immobilization without interfering the binding affinity of an antibody to antigen may be thus achieved with the reaction of boronic acid and the carbohydrate chain of Fc region.

Abstract:

Described is a novel family of cell surface serpentine transmembrane antigens. Two of the proteins in this family are exclusively or predominantly expressed in the prostate, as well as in prostate cancer, and thus members of this family have been termed “STEAP” (Six Transmembrane Epithelial Antigens of the Prostate). Four particular human STEAPs are described and characterized herein. The prototype member of the STEAP family, STEAP-1, appears to be a type IIIa membrane protein expressed predominantly in prostate cells in normal human tissues. Structurally, STEAP-1 is a 339 amino acid protein characterized by a molecular topology of six transmembrane domains and intracellular N- and C-termini, suggesting that it folds in a “serpentine” manner into three extracellular and two intracellular loops. STEAP-1 protein expression is maintained at high levels across various stages of prostate cancer. Moreover, STEAP-1 is highly over-expressed in certain other human cancers.

Abstract:

The new pure vancomycin hydrochloride substantially free of impurities known in commercially available products is described. The term “substantially free of impurities” designates a purity of vancomycin hydrochloride between about 97% and about 99%, particularly between about 98% and about 99%, preferably about 99%, as determined by HPLC analytical method as directed in U.S.P., NF 27th revision, 22 (2004). The new pure vancomycin hydrochloride (vancomycin B hydrochloride) contains less than 0.7% of total impurities, namely, only one impurity exceeds 0.3%. The new process for the purification of crude vancomycin by displacement chromatography is described by which the desired pure antibiotic according to the present invention is produced, based on the finding that high purity of the vancomycin hydrochloride is obtained using low selected pH values of the mobile phase between 3.9 and 4.2. Vancomycin hydrochloride is the known antibiotic which is used for the treatment of severe staphylococcal infections, especially those caused by methicillin-resistant staphylococcal strains.

Process for producing a multimodal polyethylene in at least two reactors connected in series, in which 20-80 wt % of a first polymer is made in suspension in a first reactor and 80-20 wt % of a second polymer is made in suspension in a second reactor in the presence of the first polymer, and a stream or slurry containing the resulting polymer is withdrawn from the second reactor and transferred to a flash tank operating at a pressure and temperature such that at least 50 mol % of the liquid component of the slurry, or the non-polymer component of the stream entering the flash tank, is withdrawn from the flash tank as a vapour, wherein the concentration in the stream or slurry entering the flash tank of components having a molecular weight below 50 g/mol, C_lights (mol %), satisfies the equation C_lights<7+0.07(40−T_c)+4.4(P_c−0.8)−7(C_H2/C_Et) where T_c and P_c are respectively the temperature (in ° C.) and pressure (MPa g) at the location where the vapour withdrawn from the flash tank is condensed, and C_H2 and C_Et are the molar concentrations in the flash tank of hydrogen and ethylene respectively.

The present invention relates to a pressure sensitive adhesive composition comprising a copolymer having cross-linkable epoxy groups as well as a solvent. The copolymer is made up of one or more first, second and third monomers, wherein the first monomer possesses an epoxy group and third monomer has a bulky side chain. Surprisingly, the third monomer provides for stability without affecting the ability of the copolymer to form cross-links. The present invention is related to novel polyolefin polymer compositions and methods of use thereof, in particular use in passenger and driver airbag cover applications for vehicles, wherein airbag covers are required to perform at extreme temperatures with no failures, brittle or ductile fractures.
